MAY 2009
FREE SKIN CANCER SCREENINGS
The American Cancer Society and Central Indiana Area Hospitals have collaborated to conduct FREE skin cancer screenings. Participants can take advantage of this opportunity during the dates indicated on the attached flyer. Screenings will be conducted by dermatologists at the sites listed. In most cases, participants will need to call the listed number to make a reservation.
As a recap, last May over 1000 people were screened! Everyone is at risk for skin cancer. In Indiana, more than 1,130 residents were expected to be diagnosed with melanoma in 2008 - the most deadly form of skin cancer.
We are seeking your assistance to help spread the word. Please forward PRESS RELEASE to your friends, family and colleagues. Feel free to print and hang on bulletin boards or distribute.

One of the biggest complaints this time
of year is sinus problems. The dry air
mixed with cold/flu season makes for a
one-two punch to your sinuses. Often,
sinus pain and pressure can lead to
painful sensations in your teeth. The
teeth most often affected are the upper
molars. In order to confirm that your
pain is from sinus pressure and not from
tooth infection, a radiograph (xray) is
taken of the sensitive tooth. Do not try
to diagnose yourself!
If you suffer from sinus pain and
pressure, consider following this
treatment course:
1. Buy a humidifier for your home.
Humidifiers will keep the air in your
home moist. I recommend a warm mist
humidifier.
2. Drink plenty of water. Dehydration
will only exacerbate your sinus issues.
3. Avoid alcohol. Alcohol dries you out.
Stick with hot beverages like tea.
4. Chicken soup! The steam from the soup
will make its way up your nose and into
your sinuses. It's the cure-all!
5. Antibiotics should be a last resort
for sinus problems. Sometimes they are
necessary, however. Call your doctor and
discuss your options.
