Indianapolis, IN – In honor of National Children’s Dental Health Month, the Healthy Smiles Club of Scott Dentistry paid a special visit to Mrs. Sergi and Mrs. Stempky’s Pre-Kindergarten class of St. Matthews Catholic Schools on Friday, February 8, 2013. The mission of the Healthy Smiles Club is to ensure that children begin to practice oral hygiene at the earliest age possible and are aware of how to maintain optimal oral health for years to come. The 30 minute event began with Scott Dentistry’s Hygienist, Brad Ford informing the attentive pre kindergartners about the importance of brushing their teeth twice a day as well as how to effectively brush the teeth and other areas of the mouth. As a visual, Ford allowed the students to show off their teeth brushing skills by having the students brush the teeth of a model mouth. The next part of the segment was conducted by, one of the dentists at Scott Dentistry Dr. Lynna Scott. Dr. Scott called for class participation by having the students determine which food items are good or bad for the teeth. To stress the importance of eating the proper foods, the students participated in activities that required them to indicate food items that are good for the teeth. “It was fun to see kids excited about oral hygiene and eating healthy foods versus eating unhealthy foods,” said Nicole Thoman, Scott Dentistry’s Scheduling Coordinator.
Overall, the Scott Dentistry staff and Pre-K teachers were highly impressed that the students were knowledgeable about the importance of maintaining a healthy smile. The event was concluded by giving the new inductees into the Healthy smiles Club as well as the Pre-K teachers special package that included the following: toothpaste, toothbrush, floss, fun stickers, Crest coupons, Scott Dentistry coupons and a Scott Dentistry brochure.
